Feedback Wanted: City Launches Beta Website

Public testing of Beta.MountainView.gov to include online survey, on-location testing and focus groups

Post Date:03/28/2023

Mountain View, Calif. — The City of Mountain has launched a beta website, Beta.MountainView.gov, to gather public input for the new MountainView.gov website. During the beta testing period, the City will continue to work with the website vendor to update content and make improvements.

The website redesign project entails the replacement of an eight-year-old City website as well as the creation of dedicated sites for Economic Development, the Mountain View Public Library and the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.

For the next several weeks, City staff is conducting public beta testing. Get involved by:

  • Exploring the beta site and taking the online survey in EnglishSpanish or Chinese, which runs through 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 18.
  • Participating in on-location testing at the Mountain View Public Library, Mountain View Senior Center and The View Teen Center.
  • Attending an hour-long Beta Website Focus Group. Sign up to participate in an upcoming session, in which participants will test the site’s functionality and ease-of-use:

The focus groups will take place at the Library, 585 Franklin St., and are limited to 10 individuals for each session.

The new MountainView.gov aims to enhance the City’s ability to connect and share information with the community through a visually appealing site that is user-centric with intuitive navigation, improved search functionality, advanced email notification customization, upgraded web accessibility for better online inclusion, and responsive design that automatically adapts to various devices, including desktop, tablet and mobile. Staff will assess the input received during beta testing and make enhancements, when possible, in preparation for launching the new website. The new MountainView.gov is anticipated to go live this spring.

Meantime, more improvements for accessing City services online are in the works. Next month, a new online permits platform called ePermitsMV will become a one-stop-shop for anyone seeking building permits from the City, providing easier electronic submission and 24/7 access to permit status. In addition, the first City of Mountain View Development Permits website is under development for an improved customer experience. This specialized site will provide a comprehensive online “how to” guide to permits and development requirements and the corresponding review process. The Development Permits site is anticipated to launch within the next few months.
