On Sunday, April 30, the City kicked off its four-part series of educational events celebrating the past, present and future of Shoreline at Mountain View. The series is part of the ongoing 40th Anniversary celebration of when the park at Shoreline opened to the public.
This first event was a presentation, “Shoreline’s Landfill: A Mountain View ‘Refuse to Resource’ Legacy,” provided by Rey Rodriguez, a retired City employee who began his 34-year career with Mountain View as an engineer overseeing the landfill on which Shoreline is built. The presentation was held at Michaels Restaurant in Shoreline and covered how Shoreline was created as well as the many facets of infrastructure that run under and through the area. After the presentation, the audience participated in a great conversation which included sharing favorite memories of Shoreline and diving deeper into specific topics. KMVT recorded the entire presentation and the question and answer session. The video will be available on KMVT’s and the City’s YouTube channels.
The next event will be on June 25, focusing on Shoreline and its significance in wildlife and habitat conservation. City Biologist, Philip Higgins, will provide a presentation and tour. To register for the event, visit MountainView.gov/Shoreline. |
