Teen arrested in connection with carjacking in neighboring city

Post Date:05/16/2023 3:51 p.m.

A teenager who carjacked a vehicle in a neighboring city has been arrested after he tried to run away from a traffic stop early Tuesday morning.

Around 5:40 am on May 16, a Mountain View patrol officer attempted to stop a Toyota sedan that was driving at a high rate of speed on westbound Central Expressway. The driver turned onto Shoreline Boulevard before he lost control of the car and crashed into a wall. The driver then got out of the car and ran into the Jackson Park neighborhood. Officers quickly set up a perimeter and were able to find the driver, who was hiding in a nearby apartment complex.

During their investigation, officers learned the 16-year-old driver from San Jose had carjacked the vehicle at knifepoint from the vehicle owner in a neighboring city. Because the suspect is a minor, no further information can be released on his identity.

Additional follow up is being conducted in this case. Should more be able to be shared, we will do so.

Media inquiries can be sent to PIO Katie Nelson at policepio@mountainview.gov.
