Post Date:05/19/2023 9:22 a.m.

Redesigned MountainView.gov features user-centric design, enhanced search engine, intuitive navigation and new email subscription service

Mountain View, Calif. This week, the City of Mountain View launched a new website, MountainView.gov, that features a modern design with better mobile compatibility and improved search function. In addition, there are now dedicated subsites for Economic Development, Mountain View Public Library and Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts.

“Through the website redesign, we are striving to make it easier for residents, businesses and others to find information, access services, and engage with our City government,” said Mayor Alison Hicks. “Nearly half of our site visitors access the City’s website from their cellphones and tablets. Among the enhancements on the new MountainView.gov is better navigation on mobile devices.”

The new MountainView.gov features:

  • Streamlined navigation menu that helps visitors find the information they are looking for.
  • Mobile-responsive design that optimizes viewing on any device.
  • Automatic translation tool for Spanish, Chinese and Russian languages that can be customized for cultural accuracy.
  • Upgraded web accessibility for more inclusive online access.
  • New email notification system for subscribing to City topics of interest including news releases, general updates, newsletters, event announcements, and public meeting details all in one location.

The website redesign was driven by community input as well as internal and public feedback received during beta testing. The City’s former website was about eight years old and based on technology that was no longer supported. The City website receives approximately 210,000 visitors and 68,000 pageviews a month on average.

The new MountainView.gov is among the numerous improvements underway for accessing City services online. In April, a new online permits platform called ePermitsMV debuted, providing a one-stop-shop for anyone seeking building permits from the City while providing easier electronic submission and 24/7 access to permit status. In the coming weeks, the City will launch its first Development Permits site, which will provide a comprehensive online “how-to” guide to permits and development requirements and the corresponding review process.

The public is invited to experience the City’s new online look and refamiliarize themselves with the navigation at MountainView.gov, EconDev.MountainView.gov, Library.MountainView.gov and MVCPA.com.
