Post Date:12/14/2022

Mountain View, Calif. — Earlier this week, Councilmember Sally J. Lieber resigned from the City Council following her election to the California State Board of Equalization in the November 2022 general election. Councilmember Lieber's resignation is effective Friday, Dec. 30.

“On behalf of the City Council, I thank Councilmember Lieber for her public service to Mountain View residents,” said Mayor Lucas Ramirez. “I have appreciated Councilmember Lieber’s passion for protecting the environment and seeking equal opportunity for all community members.”

“It has been an honor to serve the people of Mountain View and to work with my colleagues on the City Council and the City's excellent staff,” said Councilmember Lieber. “I committed to the community that I would make every effort to finish my term on City Council. Unfortunately, there is a potential conflict that has only now become apparent. To avoid that conflict, I am resigning from Council effective on December 30, when I anticipate being sworn in to the State Board of Equalization."

The City Council will hold a special meeting on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023 at 5:30 p.m. to determine the next steps for filling the vacant Council seat.

Pursuant to City Charter section 504, the Council can fill the vacancy by appointment or by calling a special election. Whether the vacancy is filled by appointment or special election, the person who fills the vacant seat will hold the seat for the remainder of Councilmember Lieber’s term. Her term expires January 2025.
