Recreational Vehicle Fire at the Shoreline Amphitheatre Parking Lot B on Crittenden Lane

Post Date:12/12/2022

On Monday, Dec. 12, at 12:38 a.m., a 911 call was received from a reporting party stating flames were coming out of a recreational vehicle parked at the Shoreline Amphitheatre Parking Lot B on Crittenden Lane.

Mountain View Fire units were dispatched at 12:38 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 12:44 a.m. They arrived to find a fully involved fire coming from an RV. Occupants moved adjacent RVs to prevent the fire from extending into their units. Firefighters initiated a fire attack with water lines pre-connected to the fire engine and extinguished the flames before they could spread.

The adult male resident of the involved RV was heard yelling for help by other residents and fortunately found his way out of the burning RV via a rear window before the arrival of firefighters. He left the scene before making contact with fire department representatives.

Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the RV to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames. There were no injuries as a result of the fire. The estimated damage to the contents and vehicle is $20,000. The cause of the fire was determined to be improper storage of a heating device.

The affected resident met with fire department officials at 6:30 a.m. and confirmed he did not need medical care and had arranged to stay with friends. The affected resident received a $250 gift card from the California Professional Firefighters Union Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency Program. The County of Santa Clara and Move Mountain View, the safe parking program operator, will provide further assistance to the resident of the RV.

The City has adopted a Safe Parking Program, which includes fire prevention measures. The Safe Parking Program offers stability for individuals and families living in a vehicle in the form of a reliable transition space and services for participants as they work through challenging times. More information about the Safe Parking Program is available on the City of Mountain View’s website, MountainView.gov/SafeParking.
