Derek Rampone Named as New Finance and Administrative Services Director

Mountain View’s next FASD Director has 20+ years of finance experience

Mountain View, Calif. — City Manager Kimbra McCarthy announced today the appointment of Derek Rampone as the director of the Finance and Administrative Services Department (FASD). Rampone has over 22 years of experience in municipal finance in private and public organizations, having most recently served as Assistant Director of Administrative Services with the City of Redwood City. Rampone will begin his new position on Jan. 9, 2023.

“After a competitive recruitment, I am thrilled to announce that Derek Rampone will join Mountain View as our new Finance and Administrative Services Director,” said McCarthy. “Derek’s experience in government finance, auditing, accounting and budgeting along with his proven track record in financial management and planning will build upon the City’s strong financial well-being. He is a seasoned leader who will bring his enthusiasm for excellent customer service and innovation to our Financial and Administrative Services team.”

As the FASD director, Rampone will be responsible for department operations including financial analysis and budget development, revenue, accounting, risk management, purchasing and support services. In addition, he is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the City maintains its strong fiscal health and AAA credit rating and supports Citywide initiatives for sustainability, affordable housing, development and key continuous improvement efforts.

In his most recent Redwood City role, Rampone oversaw the Finance and Revenue Services Divisions where he was in charge of the City’s budget development and audit process among other responsibilities. Rampone also worked as a public agency audit manager at Moss, Levy & Hartzheim for over 16 years. Rampone has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics with an emphasis in Accounting from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He is also a member of the California Society of Municipal Finance Officers (CSMFO) and Government Finance Officers Association. Rampone is the current Chair of the Peninsula Chapter of CSMFO.

The position became open due to the upcoming retirement of FASD Director Jesse Takahashi later this month. Rampone’s annual starting salary is $267,000.
