Mountain View, Calif. — At its Tuesday, June 28 meeting, the Mountain View City Council declared a Stage 2 water shortage emergency condition to further increase water conservation in response to California entering a third year of dry conditions.
Under a Stage 2 water shortage, customers are assigned specific irrigation days based on their street address. The two-day irrigation schedule is, as follows:
- Even addresses – Irrigation allowed Tuesdays and Fridays.
- Odd addresses – Irrigation allowed Mondays and Thursdays.
Other Stage 2 water use restrictions now in effect include:
- Washing paved or hard surfaces is prohibited, except by bucket or for health and safety.
- At-home vehicle washing is prohibited, except by bucket.
- Filling decorative water features is prohibited, except to sustain aquatic life.
- Hotels must offer guests the option to reuse sheets and towels.
- Time allowed to repair leaks is five days.
The City receives approximately 84% of its total water supply from the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, 10% from Valley Water, 4% from the Regional Water Quality Control Plant in Palo Alto, and 2% from local groundwater wells.
Mountain View has been under a Stage 1 water shortage emergency condition since Nov. 9, 2021.
