San Jose man arrested in connection with downtown burglary

Post Date:02/26/2023

A San Jose man was arrested in connection with a burglary of jewelry store in downtown Mountain View late Monday night.

Around 11:15 pm, Mountain View dispatchers received a call from a business owner that they had been alerted via a security camera that someone was inside their jewelry store on Castro Street.

Officers immediately began responding to the area, and one of our officers en route spotted a man matching the description of the suspect -- provided by the business owner – trying to ride away from the scene on a bicycle.

As he was riding away, the suspect began discarding jewelry on the ground. Fortunately, officers were able to quickly detain the man, identified as 39-year-old Craig McClarnon. During a search, officers also found McClarnon in possession of more than 20 grams of methamphetamine, more than 200 oxycodone pills, and several thousand dollars in cash, among other items.

McClarnon was ultimately arrested for burglary, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of methamphetamine for sale, resisting arrest and possession of burglary tools. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.

“I am proud of our patrol teams for their response to this call for help, and for all the work they do to keep our community safe, no matter the time of day,” said Lt. Armando Espitia.
