On Tuesday, April 11, the City Council adopted the 2023-2031 Housing Element, a State-mandated plan showing how the City of Mountain View can accommodate its required Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA) of over 11,000 new units over the next eight years.
This document is the outcome of over two years of work. It includes programs supporting affordable housing production, preservation, tenant protections, fair housing, homelessness prevention and many more.
The City will submit its adopted Housing Element to the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) for approval the week of April 17. Next steps include HCD review of the adopted Housing Element, which can take up to 60 days. So far, only 16 jurisdictions out of 109 in the Bay Area have been approved by the State.
