Post Date:02/01/2021 12:26 p.m.

Officers arrested a man Sunday on suspicion of attempted homicide after they responded to a call of a fight in the downtown area.

Around 8:15 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Castro Street after our dispatch center received reports of a fight between two men, with one of the individuals pinned to the ground. When officers arrived, they saw one man on top of the other, gripping the man by his throat. The victim appeared to be unconscious.

Officers ran toward the fight, commanding the man to stop strangling the victim. When they were within reach, officers were able to push the suspect off of the victim and take him into custody without incident. The victim was immediately transported to an area hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover.

The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Devin Polehla, was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of attempted homicide and delaying a peace officer in the course of their duty.
