MVPD detectives seeking identity of suspect in Bay Trail assault

Post Date:07/07/2023 11:49 a.m.

A man allegedly grabbed and inappropriately touched a teenager who was running on the Bay Trail on the evening of July 5.

Mountain View, we need your help identifying a man who inappropriately touched a teenage girl on the Bay Trail late Wednesday.

Around 8:30 pm on July 5, a 17-year-old Palo Alto resident was jogging along the Bay Trail when she saw a man walking his bicycle toward her. The teen said the man approached her and asked if she spoke Spanish, then asked if she knew how to get back to a hotel, but never stated specifically which hotel he was trying to get to.

The man asked to be shown how to get to the hotel on a map on her cell phone. The man then quickly wrapped his arm around her, grabbed her shoulder and pulled her toward him. As he did this, he inappropriately touched her. The teen quickly pushed the suspect away and ran away. She flagged down an unknown female passerby, who walked with her to her car.

The next day on July 6, the victim came to our front lobby to report the incident. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, between 30 and 40 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build, a dark complexion, short, black, wavy or straight hair, and no facial hair. The suspect wore a dark t-shirt, dark pants, and dark tennis shoes.

The suspect's bicycle was described as a cruiser style, possibly electric, with black and white lettering. The bicycle also had two cell phones mounted upon the handlebars and had a forward-facing white light.
