Man arrested in connection with Bay Trail assault

Post Date:07/11/2023 5:39 p.m.

A detailed description by the victim, along with dogged patrols by motor officers, helped in the arrest.

We’ve got him.

Today, Mountain View detectives arrested a man connected to a Bay Trail assault we shared with you last week.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Sunnyvale resident Jorge Aguilar-Pereira was identified thanks to the victim’s incredibly detailed description when she reported the incident to us last week. That description was instrumental yesterday, July 10, when two MVPD motor officers, whose sole focus over the last several days has been to ride the trail in search of the suspect, found Aguilar-Pereira and stopped him while he was riding his bike. Our motor officers were able to get his identification and today (July 11), Mountain View detectives were able to conduct a photo lineup with the victim. She was able to immediately identify Aguilar-Pereira.

Crimes Against Persons detectives were then able to subsequently arrest Aguilar-Pereira without incident at his work in Palo Alto.

Again, our gratitude to the brave teen, who came forward and who provided such solid details to help our teams apprehend the suspect. And, our thanks to our motor officers who rode the trail every day, looking for the man responsible.

We are very concerned that Aguilar-Pereira may have additional victims. If anyone recognizes him, please contact Detective Angelica Espitia at angelica.espitia@mountainview.gov.

Media inquiries can be sent to PIO Katie Nelson at policepio@mountainview.gov.
