Man arrested in connection with Cuesta Park arson

Post Date:08/09/2023 4:32 p.m.
The dumpster caught fire as families were still enjoying the park on Aug. 8.

One man was arrested in connection with a dumpster fire at Cuesta Park late on Tuesday.

On Aug. 8 around 9:30 pm, Mountain View dispatchers received calls about a fire at Cuesta Park. Callers noted that a man, later identified as 43-year-old Bryan Duncan, had allegedly set a dumpster on fire and was still at the park.

Officers arrived shortly after Mountain View firefighters had extinguished the flames and were speaking with Duncan. Mountain View patrol officers also spoke with Duncan and in the course of their investigation located items that were possibly used to ignite the fire.

At the time of the call, there were still families with small children at the park. The dumpster fire was also close to catching nearby trees and shrubbery on fire, and it sat directly behind a local church.

Fortunately, nothing else caught on fire thanks to the quick response of the Mountain View Fire Department.

Duncan was ultimately arrested on suspicion of arson and vandalism. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail.
