Residential Fire in the 300 Block of Tyrella Ave

Post Date:08/23/2023 6:36 p.m.

On Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 4:01 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting several buildings were on fire in a multi-family residence in the 300 block of Tyrella Avenue. The occupants of the residence and the adjacent units self-evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Fire units were dispatched at 4:02 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 4:06 p.m. Units arrived to find a resident using a garden hose to fight an active fire isolated to the garage. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames with a fire-attack hose line before it could spread into the living space of the residences.

Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the garage by cutting open the walls and ceiling to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames. The Mountain View Police Department closed traffic in both directions of Tyrella Avenue while fire units and equipment were on the scene.

Fire paramedics treated one adult male on-scene for smoke inhalation and transferred care to County Ambulance. He was released after declining transport to the hospital. The fire was extinguished with no further injuries. The occupants of all the residences were allowed to return to their homes after an inspection by a City of Mountain View Building Inspector. Traffic was reopened in both directions of Tyrella Avenue.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The estimated damage to the contents and structure is $200,000.
