Teens cited in replica gun case

Post Date:08/31/2023 1:04 p.m.

A swift response by patrol officers ultimately led to the discovery of the metal BB gun.

Mountain View, Calif. -- Two teenagers were cited and released to their parents after they threatened a man with a BB gun late Wednesday.

On Aug. 30 just after 9 pm, Mountain View dispatchers received a call from a 29-year-old Davis resident who told them he and his friend had been approached by three teens. Two of the teens proceeded to attack and then threaten the men with a handgun before the suspects walked away towards Safeway.

Patrol officers quickly arrived on scene and were able to get detailed descriptions of the three suspects. One of the suspects was described as a teenage male wearing a white shirt and gray pants and the other suspect was described also as a teenage male with a black backpack on his chest that allegedly contained the gun.

As one of our patrol sergeants was getting further information, the three suspects (the two males and a teenage female that was also with them) walked out of Safeway. All three were detained without incident. Patrol officers quickly recovered a black backpack that contained a metal BB gun, though if you look at the image, it very much appears to look like a real handgun.

Both teens were cited at the scene and released to their parents. One teen was cited on suspicion of making criminal threats and brandishing an imitation firearm. The other teen was cited on suspicion of battery and theft after he allegedly stole items from Safeway.

The female teenager was not suspected of a crime and was released at the scene.

Due to all involved parties being minors, we are not releasing further information on their identities.
