Vegetation Fire Along Stevens Creek Trail

Post Date:08/31/2023 1:47 p.m.

On Thursday, Aug. 31 at 9:48 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting the grass was on fire and spreading up a power pole along Stevens Creek Trail, near the Sleeper Avenue Bridge.

Units were dispatched at 9:48 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 9:54 a.m. They found a quarter-acre area of vegetation and grass on fire along Stevens Creek Trail.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames with pre-connected fire attack hose lines, limiting the burn. Firefighters mopped up the scene to ensure full extinguishment of the fire. The Mountain View Police Department closed traffic in both directions at the intersection of Sleeper Avenue and Franklin Avenue while fire units and equipment were on the scene.

Simultaneously, a 9-1-1 call was received reporting a power line was down nearby in the backyard of a residence in the 100 block of Eunice Avenue. Residents near the down power line were advised to shelter-in-place on Eunice Avenue and Stratford Court.

Pacific Gas and Electricity arrived at Eunice Avenue and secured the down power line, lifting the shelter-in-place order. PG&E crews were called to the scene to restore electric service to the residents.

PG&E was called to Stevens Creek Trail to investigate the condition of its equipment in the fire area. Traffic was reopened in both directions of Sleeper Avenue and Franklin Avenue. There were no injuries as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is undetermined.
