Broken Natural Gas Line in the 2500 Block of Nedson Court

Post Date:09/21/2023 3:29 p.m.

On Thursday, Oct. 21 at 11:34 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received from the 2500 block of Nedson Court. The reporting party stated a construction crew was excavating when they hit and ruptured a residential natural gas line.

Mountain View Fire Department units were dispatched at 11:34 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 11:42 a.m. City of Mountain View Fire Department units discovered a three quarter inch natural gas line actively leaking. Five construction workers were evacuated from the site to W. Middlefield Rd, and all the residents on Nedson Court were told to shelter in place. The Mountain View Police Department closed traffic in both directions of Nedson Court while units and equipment were on the scene.

Fire crews deployed a charged water line to protect the scene from the potential ignition of flammable gas. A PG&E crew arrived on the scene and used a clamp to pinch the line to stop the flow of natural gas. Control of the broken pipe was acquired at 12:10 p.m.

There were no reports of injuries. The construction workers were allowed to return to the job site, and the shelter in place order was lifted. Traffic was reopened in both directions of Nedson Court while PG&E crews continued their work at the site.
