Stevens Creek Trail Coastal Cleanup Day

Post Date:09/24/2023 12:52 p.m.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, the City of Mountain View Fire Department participated in the 39th annual 2023 California Coastal Cleanup of the Stevens Creek Trail. The California Coastal Commission created this event in 1985 and is managed by our partners at the Silicon Valley Water District.

According to the California Coastal Commission, Coastal Cleanup Day is California's largest annual volunteer event. It is an opportunity for people across the state to clean our creeks, rivers, lakes, coast and shorelines to help restore our environment. Virtually every body of water in California ultimately flows to the ocean, and that water can carry a lot of trash. That is why Coastal Cleanup Day takes place throughout the state to protect our coast and ocean.

Coastal Cleanup Day is an international day of action to protect our oceans, watersheds and wildlife from trash and debris. This massive volunteering effort improves many of our local natural habitats and communities. In 2021, the Ocean Conservancy reported that over 318,000 volunteers collectively removed more than 5,595,000 million pounds of trash from beaches and waterways worldwide.

Visit the California Coastal Commission for more information and to find out ways you can support, share and participate in future events.
