Residential Fire in the 1900 Block of Amalfi Way

Firefighters stop the spread of flames before they can reach the living spaces of nearby residences.

Post Date:10/12/2023 8:47 p.m.

On Thursday, Oct. 12 at 5:44 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting a townhome was on fire in the 1900 block of Amalfi Way. The occupants of the residence self-evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Fire units were dispatched at 5:45 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 5:49 p.m. Units arrived to find smoke coming from multiple attached garages in the complex. An active exterior fire involving the fence between the covered parking garages and the townhomes was located. The fire had also penetrated two of the garages. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames with a fire-attack hose line preventing further spread of the fire into the townhomes.

Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the affected garage and the adjacent garage by cutting open the walls to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames. The Mountain View Police Department closed one lane of northbound traffic on Miramonte Avenue while fire units and equipment were on the scene.

The fire was extinguished with no injuries. The occupants of the residence were allowed to return to their home. The second home was vacant at the time of the incident. Traffic was reopened in both directions of Miramonte Avenue.

The origin of the fire was determined to be in a recycle bin next to the fence. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The estimated damage to the contents and structure is $50,000.
