Post Date:11/10/2023 10:24 a.m.

On Friday, Nov. 10 at 1:50 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting a fire in the hallway of a multi-family 24-unit apartment complex in the 500 block of W. Middlefield Road.

City of Mountain View Fire Department units were dispatched at 1:51 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 1:54 a.m. Units arrived to find smoke and fire coming from the wall between a hallway and one of the apartment units. The occupants of the complex self-evacuated before firefighters arrived. Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames preventing the further spread of the fire into the other units

Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the affected unit and hallway by cutting open the walls to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames.

The fire was extinguished with no injuries. Building management made arrangements to temporarily relocate the occupant of the affected residence. Except for the damaged unit, all occupants of the complex were allowed to return to their units after fire department exhaust fans were used to clear the smoke from the complex.

The origin and cause of the fire were determined to be a malfunction of an electrical panel behind the cooking oven in the affected unit. The estimated damage to the contents and structure is $25,000.
