On Monday, Nov. 13 at 8:02 a.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting smoke coming from a single-story commercial building at 2522 Leghorn St.

City of Mountain View Fire Department units were dispatched at 8:02 a.m. and arrived on the scene at 8:07 a.m. Firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the building. Firefighters cut open a rollup door, revealing heavy smoke coming from the interior. The building’s sprinkler system activated and kept the fire from spreading until the firefighters could arrive.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames, preventing the further spread of the fire. Firefighters used fire-attack hose lines to extinguish what started as an exterior fire and became an interior fire. The Mountain View Police Department closed the 2500 block of Leghorn Street in both directions while fire units and equipment were on the scene.

Firefighters from the Palo Alto Fire Department joined the City of Mountain View firefighters in a search of the complex to ensure the fire spread had been stopped, and no victims were found. Thermal imaging cameras assisted in confirming the fire had been completely extinguished. In addition, firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the scene by cutting open the walls and roof to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames with no extension into the building or adjacent structures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation; however, it has been confirmed the fire started on the outside rear of the structure where there are no sources of ignition. The estimated damage to the contents and structure is $100,000. Firefighters replaced the activated sprinkler head and restored the fire sprinkler system before leaving the scene.

Traffic was reopened in both directions of Leghorn Street. The building was released to its responsible party to make restoration arrangements.
