Mountain View’s one of only 119 cities, states and regions globally to receive top grade

Mountain View, Calif. — The City of Mountain View is proud to announce that it is one of only 119 cities, states and regions across the globe to receive an "A" score for its sustainability efforts and commitment to environmental transparency.

"This top grade from the Carbon Disclosure Project is an acknowledgement of the tireless work and incredible investment the City has put toward sustainability and climate resiliency projects and programs," said Mayor Alison Hicks. "Sustainability and climate resiliency is one of the City Council's strategic goals. We are committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preparing for sea level rise, and protecting and enhancing our local ecosystem. Mountain View continues to lead through our sustainability and resiliency efforts, and is among only 119 cities worldwide to have received this recognition with an ‘A’ score."

More than 930 cities, states and regions participated in the program offered by the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), an international nonprofit that supports thousands of companies, cities, states and regions to measure and manage their risks and opportunities on climate change, water security and deforestation.

The City made the 2023 A List by demonstrating that it had conducted a climate risk and vulnerability assessment, adopted plans that address climate adaptation and mitigation, published a community-wide emissions inventory, established mitigation and adaptation goals, and made progress towards achieving targets.

According to CDP, A List cities report taking four times as many mitigation and adaptation measures as non-A list cities. Some of the notable actions Mountain View has taken include: ·

The A List, which was started by CDP in 2018, recognizes cities that have received the highest score for their transparency and bold climate action, and celebrates their achievements, vision and commitment in the fight against climate change. Other Bay Area cities that received an “A” score include San Francisco, San José, Oakland, Palo Alto and Piedmont.
