Residential Fire in the 2000 Block of San Ramon Avenue

Post Date:01/22/2023 11:50 a.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 21 at 5:20 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received reporting smoke coming from the roof of a multi-family residence in the 2000 block of San Ramon Avenue. The occupants of the three-unit building self-evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Fire units were dispatched at 5:21 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 5:26 p.m. Units arrived to find smoke coming from the roof of a two-story multi-family residence. Firefighters quickly initiated a fire attack with pre-connected fire attack lines and extinguished the flames. Firefighters opened up the kitchen ceiling and walls to confirm there was no further fire extension into the building. Mountain View Police closed traffic in both directions of San Ramon Avenue while fire units and equipment were on the scene.

The affected residents declined assistance from the American Red Cross for housing. Instead, they elected to stay with family nearby. The residents received a $250 gift card from the California Professional Firefighters Union Supplying Aid to Victims of Emergency Program. The residents of the other units were allowed to return to their homes. Traffic was reopened on San Ramon Avenue.

One adult male was treated and released by fire paramedics on-scene for smoke inhalation and declined transport to the hospital. The fire was extinguished with no further injuries. The fire cause was determined to be accidental due to unattended cooking, which ignited the contents in a pot on the stove. The estimated damage to the contents and structure is $100,000.
