One person was injured and one person fled to the police station during the incidents.

Mountain View, Calif. -- Outstanding patrol work from all three teams yesterday led to the successful arrest of a man connected to two assaults and a felony hit and run resulting in injury.

On Dec. 4 just before 9 pm, officers responded to reports of a road rage incident that occurred on California Street. The victim, at the direction of our dispatchers, drove to the police department for safety after the suspect threatened them. When the victim arrived, they told our officers that the suspect car was last seen in the area of California Street near Mariposa Street. According to the victim, the suspect intentionally rammed his car while chasing him. The victim described the suspect’s car as a gold Toyota sedan. Officers quickly pieced together that this was the same car involved in a similar assault earlier that day, around 10:30 am, on Central Expressway and Moffett Boulevard. Two patrol teams flooded the area and soon found the car heading  southbound on Escuela Avenue. A high-risk stop was initiated in the 1900 block of California Street and the driver was detained without incident.

The suspect driver, identified as 34-year-old Homero Topete, was positively identified by the victim for his involvement in the road rage on California Street. The victim from the earlier assault on Central Expressway also was contacted and able to positively identify the suspect as the person in their earlier incident. Topete was arrested on suspicion of two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Additionally, we learned that a hit-and-run had also happened around 3:30 pm on Dec. 4 on the 2000 block of California Street that matched the suspect and vehicle descriptions. In that case, the suspect drove over the victim's foot in the rear driveway of an apartment complex, yelled at him and then drove away. Following Topete's arrest, officers contacted the victim, who was still at an area hospital receiving treatment for their injuries. The victim positively identified Topete as the person who hit him with the car. As a result, Topete was additionally arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run resulting in injury.

Great work by all patrol officers, who tirelessly worked this case and ultimately apprehended the suspect.
