City of Mountain View Fire Department units were dispatched at 5:09 a.m. and the first engine company arrived on the scene at 5:16 a.m. City of Palo Alto Fire Department units also responded and assisted with the fire attack. The first engine on the scene reported an active fire with flames visible through the roof of the structure. The first in engine company engaged the flames with 200 feet of 1 ¾ inch fire-attack hose line, preventing further spread of the fire into the neighboring homes. The all clear was given at 6 a.m., meaning the fire was fully extinguished and no longer a threat to crews or neighboring homes.

Firefighters performed an extensive overhaul of the home by cutting open the walls and ceiling to ensure complete extinguishment of the flames. The Mountain View Police Department closed traffic on Dell Avenue while fire units and equipment were on the scene.

Firefighters performed a primary and secondary search for the occupants. One occupant of the home was evaluated as a patient of burns and smoke inhalation resulting from the fire. Care was transferred to Santa Clara County Ambulance for further evaluation and transport to the El Camino Hospital. The other two occupants were found outside the residence with the help of the Mountain View Police Department. The fire was extinguished with no further injuries. Traffic was reopened in both directions of Dell Avenue.

The occupants of the residence made accommodations to stay with friends until other arrangements could be made.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The home is a total loss, with estimated damage to the contents and structure exceeding $800,000.
