Making it easier for residential and business customers to find helpful permit information online

Mountain View, Calif. — On Monday, March 18, the City of Mountain View officially debuted the new Development Permits specialty website, DevelopmentPermits.MountainView.gov.

The Development Permits subsite, available through the City website MountainView.gov, is a comprehensive resource on permits, development requirements, and the corresponding review process. The new site currently offers information on single-family home improvement permits and common permits for new businesses.

The subsite provides instructions about applying and obtaining permits, identifies typical fees and time frames, as well as details on the many facets of development including answering questions like “why do I need to do a sewer lateral inspection?” It also features Permit Finder, a navigation tool that connects users to permit information based on their project.

Over the next year, the site’s content will expand to include the full spectrum of development project types including multifamily residential, mixed-use and commercial, as well as information on electrification and other green building opportunities.

The new DevelopmentPermits.MountainView.gov is the latest platform for improving access to City services online over the last 12 months. In April 2023, the ePermitsMV platform debuted, providing a one-stop-shop for anyone seeking building permits from the City while providing easier electronic submission and 24/7 access to permit status. One month later, the City launched a redesigned website, MountainView.gov, with streamlined navigation, mobile-responsive design and upgraded web accessibility.
