Biodiversity and Urban Forest Plan Aims for a Sustainable Future

Post Date:06/19/2024

Public invited to help create a plan that fosters a thriving urban ecosystem in Mountain View

Mountain View, Calif. — Community members are invited to take part in the development of the City of Mountain View’s Biodiversity and Urban Forest Plan. The City is partnering with the San Francisco Estuary Institute to develop the citywide plan, which will be the first of its kind in the San Francisco Bay Area to provide a clear set of priorities, goals and objectives for increasing and supporting an urban ecosystem for the long-term future.

The plan aims to achieve the following:

  • Inform and influence the vegetation, habitats and trees in projects, developments and ordinances for maximum environmental sustainability, climate resiliency and health benefits.
  • Integrate and update the City’s 2015 Community Tree Master Plan into a broader vision and blueprint for the management and enhancement of the urban forest in Mountain View.

The community will have opportunities to give input on the plan over the next few months. Activities will range from attending a pop-up event, participating in a workshop and sharing ideas and pictures online. The first pop-up event will take place on Sunday, June 30, 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Mountain View Farmer's Market, located at the Mountain View Transit Center, 600 Evelyn Ave.
