Fire Crews Respond to Restaurant Fire at 580 N. Rengstorff Ave.

The cause of fire remains under investigation

Post Date:11/03/2021 10:07 a.m.

On Tuesday, November 2 at 7:05 p.m., Mountain View Communications received a phone call reporting a kitchen fire in the Chang’an Artisan Noodle Restaurant at 580 N Rengstorff Ave. The occupants of the restaurant self-evacuated the building.

Units were dispatched at 7:06 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 7:09 p.m. They encountered heavy black smoke coming from the back of a strip mall. Firefighters made entry into the building with a pre-connected fire attack line. Once inside, firefighters discovered the source of the flames was a commercial refrigerator. The fire was quickly knocked down before it could spread out of the kitchen and into the other businesses in the strip mall.

The fire was contained to only the refrigerator appliance and did not extend past the involved unit. The fire was confirmed to be fully extinguished and the “all clear” was given at 7:35 p.m., meaning everyone was accounted for and the fire was completely extinguished.

The fire was extinguished with no injuries to civilians or firefighters. The estimated damage to the contents and structure is $10,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Due to the fire, smoke and water damage as well as this being a facility containing food and perishables, the restaurant will remain closed until cleared by the Santa Clara County Department of Public Health. The City of Mountain View Fire Department and Community Development Department will also have to approve the restaurant’s reopening.
