After a fire is extinguished, an investigation is launched to determine the cause and origin of the fire or explosion. Investigations of these incidents require a systematic approach and knowledge of basic fire science. Although most fires are accidental, some fires are found to be criminal in nature. When a fire is determined to be intentionally set our investigator works closely with our Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to ensure that potential suspects are investigated, apprehended and prosecuted.
The Mountain View Fire Department is a member of the Santa Clara County Fire Investigation Task Force. The Task Force is part of a County wide mutual aid plan. Our participation in the Task Force allows us to assist other departments and assures that this same assistance is available to Mountain View if and when assistance is needed.
Requests for copies of fire investigation reports should be referred to Fire Administration at 650-903-6378 and the following form must be filled out:
- Fire Incident Reports: Fire Incident Request
- Patient Care Reports: Authorization to Release Medical Records
