Post Date:03/11/2024

Mountain View and Sunnyvale detectives are seeking additional victims related to a sexual assault case.

Mountain View, Calif.- On Feb. 20, 2024 at around 11:05 a.m., Mountain View Police dispatchers received a call after an incident inside the Goodwill Store located at 855 East El Camino Real. A female victim was approached by a man who began masturbating in front of her. The man, later identified as 25-year-old Mountain View resident Thomas Serna, fled the scene.

The next day, Feb. 21, at around 6 p.m., Mountain View dispatchers received a call of a sexual battery incident inside the Walmart store in Mountain View. A female victim was shopping when a man approached her and touched her buttocks. The victims description was similar to the same man who had been involved the previous days incident at the Goodwill Store.

After follow-up work by Mountain View detectives, they learned the suspect may be related to incidents that occurred in a Sunnyvale CVS store in November 2023 and January 2024. In the Sunnyvale incidents, the description of the man were similar to the man in the Mountain View incidents.

On Feb. 22 at around 2:57 p.m., Mountain View dispatchers received a phone call from a Goodwill employee who said Serna had returned to the store. Mountain View officers quickly responded and were able to place him under arrest. Serna was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for indecent exposure, sexual battery, lewd conduct, and resisting/delaying an officer.

Mountain View and Sunnyvale detectives continue to investigate these cases and are concerned that Serna may have additional victims. If you or anyone you know may be a victim of Serna, contact Mountain View PD Detective Lauren Riffel at Lauren.Riffel@mountainview.gov or Sunnyvale DPS Detective Kira Ochoa at Kochoa@sunnyvale.ca.gov.”
