Understanding Your Water Bill

Water rates for both residential and commercial customers are based on billing units (One billing unit = 748 gallons) and billing tiers. Please see information on your utility bill explained.

  • Reference the appropriate customer sections below for calculation details.
  • Each tier builds on the preceding tier, so your water bill is commensurate to your water use.
  • Water conservation is encouraged. Lower water usage will result in lower water bills.

If you have any questions related to your utility bill, please contact the Finance and Administrative Services Department at (650) 903-6317.

For information about water quality, leak detection, sewer maintenance, or nonpoint source pollution control, contact the Public Services Department at (650) 903-6329.
