The Parks and Recreation Commission was established to assist in the planning of parks and recreation facilities and activities while working with local schools and other public and private entities to achieve a vibrant network of parks, recreation opportunities. functioning facilities and open space. The Commission consists of five members.

The general functions for the Parks and Recreation Commission include:

  • Acting in an advisory capacity to the Council for all parks and recreation matters
  • Considering and recommending annual budget provisions for parks and recreation purposes
  • Accepting donations to the City for recreation or park purposes, including real estate and property, which are subject to the approval of the Council

The Commission also serves as Urban Forestry Board, which hears appeals and makes recommendations regarding heritage tree and street tree concerns.

Meetings

The Parks and Recreation Commission regularly meets the second Wednesday of every month from September through June at 7:00 p.m., with the exception of the January meeting which is held on the third Wednesday of the month.
