Phase I (Completed)

San Antonio Village Center Phase I renderingIn June 2011, Council approved Merlone Geier Partners' application to reconstruct 16-acres of the 56-acre San Antonio Shopping Center with 330 apartment units, a 65,000 square foot Safeway building and three retail tenant buildings totaling 26,200 square feet at the corner of El Camino Real and San Antonio Road.

A one acre park is constructed on the Hetch-Hetchy right-of-way that accommodates a dog park, outdoor seating and an open grass area.

The Phase II project described below includes the property on the northern project boundary, which was originally approved for a 175,000 sq. ft. retail building. A hotel and office building with retail uses on the first floor was approved in this location instead.

Phase II (Completed)

San Antonio Village Center Phase II renderingIn July 2013, Merlone Geier Partners submitted an application for a 9.9-acre Phase II development at the San Antonio Center. In December 2014, Council approved redevelopment which included approximately 121,000 square feet of commercial, retail and restaurants; a 70,000 square foot cinema; 397,000 square feet of office and a 167-room hotel.

Phase III - Under Review

In December 2019, Council authorized Merlone Geier Partners to submit an application for Phase III of the San Antonio Village Center. This phase proposes:

  • A new 7-story, approximately 182,000 square foot office building with ground-floor retail and three-levels of underground parking with up to 150,000 square feet from the Los Altos School District (LASD) Transfer of Development Rights program;
  • A shared parking reduction between the project site and adjacent development site;
  • Removal of 5 Heritage trees; and
  • Amendments to the San Antonio Precise Plan to accommodate the additional TDR square footage; and
  • A Development Agreement

The 0.99-acre project site is located on the southeast corner of San Antonio Road and California Street in the P-40 (San Antonio) Precise Plan.

Public Meetings

This project will tentatively be heard at the following public hearing dates (subject to change).

  • None scheduled.

Meeting agenda, staff report and materials will be posted at mountainview.legistar.com the Friday prior to the public hearing date and will include information on meeting location, format, and how to participate.
