The City of Mountain View is committed to providing information about proposed developments and Planning Division policy projects. This page describes some of the ways you can find more information on developments and policy projects, including how to receive project updates.

Postcard Notifications

  • Projects affecting a specific geographic area or project site. The City sends postcards to property owners and tenants within 750 feet of the project area/site at least two weeks prior to formal recommendations and final actions by the Zoning Administrator, Environmental Planning Commission and City Council.

The City code does not require noticing for study sessions; however, it is the City’s administrative policy to send postcards for these meetings. In some cases, postcards may be sent minimally later than two weeks prior to the meeting, or a single postcard may advertise multiple meetings.

  • Projects affecting a large area (City-wide or more than 1,000 property owners within 300 feet of the affected area). The City code does not require postcards for these projects prior to public meetings; however, the City often mails  postcards to property owners and tenants as part of an overall outreach strategy. These postcards typically contain the project planner’s information and instructions on how to stay informed throughout the duration of the project.

For policy projects, the affected area is the area where new policy (such as rezoning or General Plan amendment) is occurring.

Email Notifications for Projects

You can sign up for project-specific email notifications about upcoming City Council and advisory body meetings, neighborhood meetings, workshops, and other events, and the availability of public documents.

The Bi-monthly Development Projects Update webpage is a good resource to see the range of projects the Planning Division is working on. The webpage contains a map of project locations and links to the Bi-Monthly Development Project Update Document which contains project summaries, City staff contact information for each project, and a link to the project web page, if one is available. This webpage also allows community members to sign up to receive notifications when new versions of this document are available (instructions below).

There are two ways to sign up for notifications:

  • Sign up for email notification through the website (if available).  Some web pages for large development projects, policy projects, and other related work efforts, including the Bi-Monthly Development Projects Update, include a box to enter your email to receive notifications. Enter your email in the box, hit submit, and you will be signed up.

  • Sign up for email notification through the project planner. For development or policy projects that do not have a web page, or if there is no sign-up box on the web page, you can email the project planner and ask to be added to their interested parties list.  The planner’s email address can be located in the Bi-Monthly Development Projects Update, project site information boards, or by calling or emailing the Planning Division at 650-903-6306 or planning.division@mountainview.gov

Email Notifications for Meeting Agendas

In addition to the notification options above, you can also sign up to receive email alerts when agendas are posted for any public meeting body. This includes the Zoning Administrator, Environmental Planning Commission and City Council. You will see “Published Agenda Email Notifications” at the top of the City’s Meetings web page and can input your email address for future notifications.
