Multiple efforts are underway to improve Miramonte Avenue corridor.             

Water and Sewer Main Replacement

In 2023, the City of Mountain View has replaced City water and sewer mains along Miramonte Avenue. This work has been completed in advance of repaving to ensure that subsequent roadway improvements achieve maximum benefits.

Phase 1: Miramonte Avenue Improvements Project (CIP 20-01) (Segment B)

The Miramonte Avenue Improvements Project (Capital Improvement Program #20-01) will enhance pedestrian, bicycle and school access while also reconstructing the roadway pavement along Miramonte Avenue between Cuesta Drive and Castro Street. Improvements include accessible curb ramps, high-visibility crosswalks, rectangular rapid flashing beacons at Hans Avenue, buffered bicycle lanes, a 4- to 3-lane road diet, and a two-way protected bikeway between Castro Street and Hans Avenue (adjacent to Graham Middle School). These improvements are partially funded using Transportation Development Act Cycle 3 grant funds.  City staff expect to complete project design in January 2024 and move into the project construction phase in June 2024. Phase 2: Miramonte Bikeway Preliminary Design Study (CIP 23-31) (Segments A and C)

After completing repaving and complete streets improvements in Segment B, the City plans to repave Segment A, enhance safety and multimodal access and provide a cohesive corridor-wide design that aligns with Miramonte Avenue Phase 1 improvements.  Staff obtained a VTA 2016 Measure B Planning grant to develop preliminary design concepts for Segment A (Castro to El Camino) as well as Segment C (Cuesta to Los Altos City limit). This preliminary design study will commence in Spring 2024. After preliminary design is complete, staff will commence engineering design for repaving and corridor improvements in Segment A.  Construction funding for Segment C will be considered as part of the development of the next Capital Improvement Program (FY 2025-26 CIP).
